
Jalandhar March 3 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A guest lecture was organized by the Department of Punjabi of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, in which Dr. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia, former Head of Department of Punjabi of the University, former Dean of the Faculty of Languages and former Director of the Academic Staff College, was present as a source speaker.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra while congratulating Dr. Bhatia said that it is a matter of good fortune for us that such a distinguished critic, awarded with various national and international awards, has arrived in our campus. She also said that our students are indeed fortunate that they are getting an opportunity to listen to a seasoned scholar, reflective critic and a great linguist who speaks different languages.
Addressing the august gathering, Dr. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia said, “I have actually come to salute this Kala Mandir.” He said that this college is leaving no stones unturned to enhance fine arts and to preserve the languages.
Dr. Bhatia said that we should never feel inferior in communicating in our mother tongue
Addressing the students, Dr. Bhatia said that we should never feel inferior in communicating in our mother tongue. He asserted the basic idea of the language is to communicate and we should choose the language according to the situation, time and people and should feel free to use the language in which we feel confident.
Dr. Bhatia also told the students that the way the language has started to be misused due to the influence of social media is really a matter of concern. He said that globalization and materialism have affected the language to a great extent and it is the responsibility of the younger generation to mould these circumstances and understand the pure form of the language and pass it on to future generations.
Mr. Sandeep Singh, Head of Department of Punjabi expressed his gratitude to everyone for making this programme a success. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra appreciated the efforts of Mr. Sandeep Singh, Ms. Lovepreet Kaur and Ms. Anuradha for successfully organizing the programme.
