Jalandhar May 17 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A workshop titled Saada Sohna Punjab was organized on 12th May 2022 at Lyallpur Khalsa College. The workshop was organized by The Eco Navigators’ Club of the college. The purpose of the workshop was to encourage students to become more responsible, socially and environmentally, by educating them about Punjab as ecologically rich sub-tropical region of India encompassing diverse wild life, plants and birds.
The guest of honour on this occasion was Mr. Harpreet Sandhu. Mr. Sandhu is Chairman, Punjab Infotech and has also served as former Additional Advocate General Punjab. Although Mr. Sandhu is a lawyer by profession with specialization in International Laws and Relations, he has many other accomplishments to his credit such as being an author of books on varied topics and documentary film maker.
At the workshop, Mr. Sandhu introduced his coffee table book, Saada Sohna Punjab. This book is a compendium of stunning photographs taken during the recent Covid lockdown, illustrating the hitherto unacknowledged natural beauty of different locations of Punjab. The book has beautiful pictures of serene waters of River Satluj, the breathtaking view of confluence of Rivers Beas and River Sutlej, captivating sights of Dhar Lake, idyllic shots of Mattewara Forest, spectacular scenery at Harike pattan among many other picturesque nature locations around Shahpur kandi dam, Ranjit sagar dam, Thar Lake, Pong Dam and 52 Gate Lake.
Mr. Sandhu presented his book to the college
Mr. Sandhu presented his book to the college which was accepted by Principal Dr. GS Samra and HOD’s of various departments of the college. Mr. Sandhu also spoke about how nature of Punjab can be of immense importance in the lives of the students. A documentary film directed by Mr. Harpreet Sandhu showcasing rare photographic views of Punjab was also shown.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of a textbook
Another important highlight of the occasion was the presentation of a textbook on Environmental Studies authored by HOD, Dept of Environmental Science, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur. Written in a concise and systematic way, the book is a comprehensive introduction to environmental studies.
The programme concluded with a song performance by Prof. Vineet Gupta. This song with an important message of ‘Say No to Plastics’ was written and composed by Prof. Vineet Gupta himself. The song developed a cheerful bonhomie amongst the gathering and also awakened a new hope about the achievement of environment goalsamongst the young students.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra congratulated Mr. Harpreet Sandhu for his visionary work and said that the book will go a long way in promoting tourism in Punjab. He emphasized that the message of the book to protect and conserve natural resources, plants and animals should be followed by everyone. He also stressed upon the climactic changes occurring around the globe and exhorted the students to lead lives that are environmentally friendly.
While thanking the guest of honour on the occasion, Prof Simranjit Singh Bains, President of the Eco Navigators Club said that as responsible citizens of this earth, it our moral obligation to protect and conserve the environment in every way we can.
