
Jalandhar February 24 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The NSS Wing and Department of Languages of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar jointly organized the closing ceremony of the International Mother Language Day week. Dr. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia, former Dean of the Faculty of Languages and former Director of the Academic Staff College, Guru Nanak Dev University, was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra warmly welcomed him and said, ” It is our privilege that such a great personality and exemplary critic has arrived at our college.”
Addressing the students, Dr. Neerja Dhingra said no matter how many languages we become proficient in, but no language can be better than our mother tongue to express the feelings of our heart.
On this occasion, Ms Lovepreet Kaur, Assistant Professor of Department of Punjabi, expressed the pain on depleting stage of mother tongue day by day through a self composed poem and highlighted the importance of mother tongue. On this occasion, a spectacular presentation of Karwaan- e- Sukhan documentary dedicated to the journey of India’s quintessential languages was presented.
In ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, the students representing different states of India
In the week, dedicated to International Mother Language Day, various competitions like poetry recitation, essay writing, calligraphy, kite flying and fancy dress based on literary personalities were organized for the college students in which the students participated with great enthusiasm. In ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, the students representing different states of India introduced the audience to their specialties.
Student- Harmandeep Singh under the direction of Dr. Vivek Verma mesmerized everyone by singing the folk song ‘Yogi Uttar Pahadon Aaya’. Also, the students of the college mesmerized everyone with a scintillating group dance performance based which was fusion of Punjabi Bhangra, Indian classical dance and contemporary dance.
In the various competitions organized on this occasion, Kritina got first, Chetan Sharma second, Mitali third and Gurvinder Kaur got consolation prize in Poetry Recitation competition; Simran Bawa got first, Urvi second, Priya Kumari third and Mitali Joshi got consolation prize in Calligraphy.

In Essay writing, Gursahib Singh got first, Archa got second, Rajat got third and Bhavini got consolation prize ; Andrew Dheer got first, Shivam Nayyar got second and Ribhav Batra got third place in Kite flying competition. In the fancy dress competition, Tushar as Munshi Premchand got the first position, Pari Kakkar as Dilip Kaur Tiwana got the second position and Balvin as Waris Shah got the third position.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra honoured Dr. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia with a memento and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Simkee Dev, Dean,NSS Wing, Mr. Sandeep Singh,Head, Department of Punjabi and Ms Lovepreet and Ms Anuradha for the immense success of this programme.
