Describing it he said, Textile design is the study of textiles to innovate design solutions. It incorporates the use of design technologies to create and work with fabric. Textile designers are more explicitly occupied with the creation of designs that will be used in textile products, for example, garments, floor coverings, sheets, and wraps.
Textile Designers can work within a field where media, materials, production methods and public taste all have a bearing on their work. Designers need to understand and exploit these limitations so that the fabric is readily identified with a specific need and its acceptance is facilitated.
He also talked about the responsibilities of a Textile Designer which involves the creation and development of designs or patterns which are either woven, knitted or printed on to or into cloth. They need artistic skills and sound knowledge of fabric characteristics and factory reproduction techniques to design exquisite and marketable textiles. Creative artists use their skills and experience to produce designs and colorations, not only by traditional sketches and painting but also using latest Textile Design softwares such as Textronics, Ned Graphics, Tukatech to name a few.
