Jalandhar December 23 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The Department of Commerce of Apeejay College of Fine Arts organized a 3 day Online workshop on the topic FINANCIAL LITERACY. The workshop was conducted by National Institute of Securities Market (NISM) SEBI under KonakonaShiksha Project for the final year students of the college. Miss Anita, Security Market Trainer from NISM, was the resource person for the workshop. The purpose of the session was to inculcate financial literacy among the job oriented youth. Dr. Monika Arora, Head of the Commerce Department, formally welcomed the resource person and discussed the need and importance of such workshops. The resource person started the session with the basic concepts of financial markets and its regulatory framework. She awared the students about the different investment avenues which are available for investors and basic principles of investment. She also discussed the concepts like IPOs, preferential issue, right issue, procedure and condition to open Demat account, Depository system, Systematic Investment Plan(SIP) ,Mutual Funds, its types and terminology like NAV, CAGR etc. The session was concluded with an informative video about the securities market. Also, a brief test was conducted to examine the understanding of the students, on the basis of which certificates were awarded. The entire session was intellectual and interactive and students learnt a lot about the growing role and importance of financial markets and various trends in this sector. Principal Dr. NeerjaDhingra thanked the resource person for sharing her intellect and expertise with the students. She also highlighted the importance of such topics to bridge the industry academia gap for the students. She also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Manisha Sharma and Ms. Talwinder Kaur for successfully organizing the workshop.
