Jalandhar February 20 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- The departments of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidayala Jalandhar, organized “Story Telling Competition” under the aegis of DBT Star College Scheme. This event was a part of the“Innovative Teaching Pedagogies” initiative by these departments in which students from different science streams participated to showcase various scientific concepts in the form of stories. It is worth mentioning that the event was planned with motivation from the DAV College Managing Committee and the able guidance of our Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen.
The programme was initiated with the welcome address by Dr. Jatinder Kumar, Head Department of Biotechnology while the concept note was given by Dr. Harpreet Singh, Head Department of Bioinformatics. The chief guest of the day, Mrs. Navroop, officiating Principal, Dean Youth Welfare and Head PG Department of Punjabi, applauded the organizers for such a unique initiative for the students. The guest of honor Mrs. Mamta, Dean Vedic Studies and Head PG Department of English, felt excited to see such an amalgamation of literature and Science.
Dr. Neelam Sharma, Faculty incharge Sciences and Head PG department of Chemistry, motivated the participants to use this opportunity to enhance their communication skills. Dean Academics, Head Department of Zoology, Dr. Seema Marwaha and Dean Innovation and research, Head PG Department of Botany, Dr. Anjana Bhatia encouraged the students to participate in such initiatives by the Faculty of Sciences.
Taniya Sethi of M.Sc. Bioinformatics Semester-II received the 1st prize
In this competition Ms. Taniya Sethi of M.Sc. Bioinformatics Semester-II received the 1st prize while the team consisting of Ms. Navreen Kaur and Ms. Nitya Bangroo from B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester-IV got the 2nd Prize. The third prize was won by Ms. Bhavya Samridhi and Ms. Amritpal Kaur of B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester-II. Mrs. Ramandeep Kaur and Dr. Suchi Sharma from PG Department Botany acted as judges of this event.
On this occasion, Mrs. Deepshikha, Associate professor of Chemistry and Dr. Shaweta Chauhan and Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant professors in Botanyand Ms. Diksha Marwaha, Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics were also present. The stage conduct was taken care of by Ms. Isha, a student of B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester-VI. Ms. Komal chowdary and Ms. Khushboo, students of B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester-VI helped in the registration of students. The technical support was given by Mr. Arvind Chandi while other venue arrangements were done by Mr. Tirath. Mr. Sumit Sharma, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology presented the vote of thanks mentioning efforts from all the members of the teaching, non-teaching and supporting staff to make this event a success.
