International Women’s Day Celebration at PCM S.D. College for Women

Jalandhar March 8 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- In order to raise an awareness about the status and dignity of women among students, an International Women’s Day celebration was organized by the Women Empowerment cell of PCM S.D College for Women, Jalandhar. On this solemn occasion, the Chief Guest was ADCP Mrs. Manjit Kaur, PAP Jalandhar. Dr. Madhu Prashar, Former Principal and National and State awardee, Dr. Sushma Chawla, President NARCHI, Jalandhar and Mrs. Parveen Abrol, President, NGO, Divya Drishti were the Guests of Honour.

The college Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Pooja Prashar accorded a floral welcome to the guests. As per the tradition of the college, the ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp and an invocation to Goddess Saraswati with a prayer for the spread of knowledge and light in the world and eradication of illiteracy and ignorance.

The chief guest ADCP Mrs. Manjit Kaur, in her address appreciated the efforts of the women of society and highlighted that mere equality doesn’t matter, power must be given in addition to equality to build the nation. If given the opportunity to prove their worth, women can put their best foot forward, for which their parents must support them.

Mrs Parveen Abrol in her address, enlightened the audience with her remarkable words, adducing that no woman is less than her male counterpart. She must be financially independent to unleash her inner power and realize her true worth in society in both social and political realm.

Through self-acceptance and faith in the self, can women manifest confidence in all walks of life. Women will be viewed on an equal footing to men, if women themselves know how to sustain their place in society.

Women empowerment

Speaking about women empowerment, Dr.Sushma Chawla Said that girls should be self-dependent by educating themselves in order to lead a secure and respectable life in the society.

Dr. Madhu Prashar brought out the role of women in family and society. She said that women’s day is to celebrate the achievements of women in various fields and also to express our respect, appreciation and love towards the most powerful sex. She also maintained that a woman is capable of being empowered of her own accord, only if she knows how to ignite her inner spark and channelize the same for a good cause.

The honorable members of the Managing Committee and respected Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Pooja Prashar lauded the endeavors of Mrs. Kawaljeet Kaur and Mrs. Anuradha, in-charges of the Women Empowerment cell for organizing such constructive lectures to sensitize and energize students towards the cause of women empowerment. The stage was conducted by Mrs. Divya Budhia. The event was also graced by the magnificent presence of team of the Bank of Baroda.
