KMV nurture students’ career under DBT Star College Scheme

Jalandhar January 16 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) has always stressed upon innovations in science education for enabling smart and inclusive growth of students. KMV was selected under DBT Star College Scheme in 2015. Under DBT star college scheme KMV foster career of its students. Under the umbrella of DBT Star College Scheme KMV organized various Industrial trainings, internship programs and field visits for undergraduate students viz. Summer Trainings at CSIR-IGIB, Delhi, CSIR-IHBT, Palampur & Gujarat Borosil Ltd., Bharuch etc. All the trainings were free of cost for students including their travel, lodging and boarding.

Department of Sciences have introduced nearly 226 hands- on experiments (Projects) and 496 new Experiments/ Demonstrations to inculcate research aptitude in students so that students can compete at different levels. Our students have presented their unique and innovative ideas in Innovesta, Toycathon, Smart India Hacathon, and have bagged various prizes. To inculcate research aptitude among the students at Undergraduate and post graduate level KMV provide research grant to its students under DBT and Seed Money initiative of the institute.

Our students have presented their research work in different conferences held at various institutes and brought laurels for the institute. KMV has established Innovation Hub in its own campus. KMV-Innovation hub is an independent place of learning, inspiration, motivation, recreation, imagination and thinking, where students are encouraged to investigate new facts about each instrument and are advised to plan different experiments and activities related to apparatuses. Many students from 30 different schools have visited college’s Innovation hub to make it easier for them to understand the concepts in a practical way.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organises different workshops like ANUBHOOTI every year

To motivate students to develop critical and analytic thinking, different innovative projects Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organises different workshops like ANUBHOOTI every year in which projects made by senior science students were exhibited. Faculty always motivate and guide students and they clear the National Anveshika Experimental Skill Test, by which KMVites are recognised among top 1000 students of the country. To strengthen the academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence inteaching and training labs are equipped with 386 new equipments.

Digital contents like You Tube channel named KMV DBTStar has been created that includes videos of students activities, Learning Management System was launched as an online learning interface. In order to provide better library to students and teachers,Department of Sciences has purchased more than 700 books under Star College Scheme. KMV has also conducted Faculty development programs and training courses from time to time to update teaching skills of its teachers.

Department of Sciences has developed some unique and innovative techniques

During DBT star college scheme faculty of sciences has published 5 Books, 59 Research Publications, 2 patents and 7 book chapters and 9 Research Projects has bagged by Faculty of Sciences. Department of Sciences has developed some unique and innovative techniques to understand science involved in our daily life easily. These techniques not only make sciences an interesting subject but also inspire students to opt research as their career.

KMV also mentored many colleges of India for DBT Star College Grant. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of Faculty of Sciences for their commendable work done during the five years of Star College Scheme and also encourage them to keep working for the betterment of students and college.
