The day is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Magha. Basant Panchami is commonly known as ‘Saraswati puja’. Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of expansive reservoir of knowledge, language, music, and of arts is worshipped on this day. Since Goddess Saraswati is associated with music, arts and knowledge, this day is also marked by the significant ritual of Vidhya Arambha.
