PG Department of Commerce and Management organizes Educational Tour

Jalandhar April 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- PG Department of Commerce and Management organized an educational visit for the students to A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The main aim of the visit was to imbibe in the student the virtues of committment and devotion for knowledge and learning. Around 80 students of B.Com and M.Com were part of this excursion alongwith six teachers. The students visited the Punjab University’s A.C. Joshi Library in three batches. The library was named after an illustrious Vice Chancellor of this University.

The students were amazed to learn that it is a five storey centrally air conditioned impressive library and has been recognised as one of the six document delivery centers for data information distribution under the UGC INFLIBNET Programme. The library operates on OPAC system- i.e. Online Public Access Catalogue. Students were explained in detail about how the books are issued on the OPAC basis via the computerized online system. The students were impressed with the automation of the modern library with high speed servers, scanners, printers and multimedia computers and its 24×7 operations.

The ambience of the library and the readers present was a sight worth watching. This motivated and inspired the students to learn more. It enlightened students with new ideas of gaining knowledge and such a visit instilled in them the yearning for resourceful content and value of education. The student enjoyed a NUKKAD NATAK presented by a group of University students on child sexual abuse and psuedo mature behavior. The act highlighted the conflicts in interpersonal relationship leading to cognitive dissonance. It was an informative and heart touching act.

Nek Chand’s Rock Garden was the next destination

Nek Chand’s Rock Garden was the next destination. The captivating enormous innovative park space spreads over an area of 40 acres built up from waste items. The students were amazed to see the beautiful arrangements of rocks, broken chinaware, broken glass bangles etc juxtaposed to create a dream folk world. The creativity of the doll museum gave glimpses of Indian rural more. Though this students learnt the value of creativity, nature and environment.

They also got various ideas of reuse and recycling of discarded or old materials. Sukhna Lake is a prominent reservoir at the foothills of Himalayas was our last destination. The scenic beauty of the lake, the chirpy migratory birds and ripples of water was a soothing and relaxing experience . The students were bloomed and thrilled by this visit. They learnt about the importance of nature and place in today’s busy lives.

President Shri Naresh Kumar Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, the other honourable members of the Managing Committee and the worthy Principal of the college Prof. Dr. Pooja Prashar congratulated the innovative Department of Commerce and Management for successfully organizing the educational tour. She also said that such trips and visits not only educate the young mind but also nurture and nourish them with gasp of freshness in such a way that they work and learn with more conviction and commitment.
