Jalandhar January 16 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A two-day Faculty Development Programme on National Education Policy was organized at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. On the first day of the FDP, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra and Dr. Monika Mogla introduced the faculty members to the vision, objective and structure of National Education Policy.

Principal, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, while talking about the policies of the National Education Policy on the subject” National Education Policy 2020: An overview” said that in this National Education Policy, where flexibility, multi dimensionality and conceptual knowledge are being emphasised about on one hand, on the other hand it focuses on multifaceted development of the students.

National Education Policy aims to make students employable and for that the emphasis is being laid on starting the preparation from the school itself, so that the students can recognise their interests right from their foundation years and thus can choose the stream for the higher education and profession accordingly.

As per the new education policy, the education will be made more liberal and flexible for the students to choose from as per their convenience. It gives students to choose multidisciplinary courses and also the freedom of continuing the course for one, two or three years. As per which the students will get undergraduate certificate, diploma and degree respectively. Also, the faculty was made aware of the process which will allow the students to get enrolled in PhD programme directly after 4 year undergraduate programme i.e. by securing atleast 75% marks.

She emphasised that the main objective of implementing the new National Education Policy is to move ahead of the traditional education system so that the students can acquire such knowledge which enables them to create an identity which could differentiate them from the crowd and also serve the society and make the world a better place to live.

Dr. Monika Mogla, Head, Department of Commerce was the another Resource person of this Faculty Development Programme and addressing the gathering she talked about Co-Curriculum and Credit Framework in the context of the school as well as higher education.

As per the new policy, the burden of written examinations on the school students will be reduced as they will have to appear for the board examinations only twice till 12th. Also, the system will concentrate on the all round development of their personality and not just finishing the syllabus and appearing for the examinations.

She also talked of the CGPA system which can help students to get their degrees recognised not just in other states of the country but also internationally. In this FDP, the other faculty members of Ramgrhia College, Phagwara, Janta College, Kartarpur and B.L.M College, Nawanshahr were also present.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra encouraged and inspired the teachers to cooperate and keep updating themselves for the development of the students while doing self introspection in the process. Dr. Sunit Kaur, Head, Department of English thanked Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra and Dr. Monika Mogla on the behalf of entire staff for the informative session.
