Jalandhar March 7 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- On the eve of International Women’s Day, Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar in collaboration with Rajeshwari Kala Sangam celebrated and saluted the women power and dedicated the day to honour her. Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar has always been known for setting examples and it is an inevitable fact that the life of Dr. Sushma Pal Berlia, Chairperson, Apeejay Education, Co-Promoter and President of Apeejay Stya and Svrán Group and Co-Founder and Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, is a great source of inspiration for women in this modern era.

She has won so many awards and accolades in the education and business that she has become a source of inspiration to the women kind in so many ways. Also, with her excellent leadership and farsightedness, she has taken the institute to the greater heights which was always envisioned by the Founder chairman Late Dr. Stya Paul Ji. Now following her footsteps, Dr. Neha Berlia, Co-Founder and Pro Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, is also establishing herself as a strong woman and infusing new energy in the Apeejay institutions.

The Women’s Day celebrations begin with the documentary titled – Leader of the Journey. It showcased the life journey of Dr. Sushma Paul Berlia in her many roles which she plays successfully.

Dr. Sucharita, Director, Apeejay Education, Jalandhar who was warmly welcomed in these celebrations expressing her views on the significance of celebrating International Women’s Day, said, “Our aim is to create awareness amongst the students about the significance of women empowerment. It is something to ponder that in our society only 25 to 30% of the women are completely empowered and they too have to face many hurdles challenges to reach at that position. So, on this occasion of International Women’s Day, we want to inspire our students and show them the examples of strong and successful women.” She also showered words of admiration and praise for her own ideal, role mentor and a true guide – Dr. Sushma Paul Berlia.

The major highlight of these celebrations was Mrs. Vidha Lal, a multifaceted Kathak exponent of Jaipur Gharana, a disciple of Guru Gitanjali, awarded with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. It is noteworthy to mention that she has won the Guinness Book of World Records in 2011 for taking 103 rounds in 1 minute and also, she is a recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan Award by Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2018. Her breathtaking Kathak performance along with her team awed the gathering. Her performance was simply a personification of elegance and grace which set the stage on fire.

Addressing the gathering Mrs Vidha Lal said, ” It has always been an honour to visit Apeejay.” She added women are such strong force that they can attain everything they put their mind to and can create the history.

Also, six former students of the college, Dr. Neeru Mago (Assistant Professor, Punjab University Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur), Ms. Saher Ahuja (Deputy Finance Manager, HCL Technology), Ms. Reetika Goel (Multimedia Designer, Artisan Era), Dr. Mamta Joshi (Emerging Sufi Singer), Ms. Teenu Sharma (Creative Director, VIP Motion Pictures) and Ms. Aparna (Interior Designer, Ambience by Aparna). All of them gave the credit of their success and strong and uplifted personality to Apeejay College, the resources it offers and their respective mentors. They got nostalgic remembering their old college days and thanked the college for making them who they are today.

The celebrations ended with the remarks by Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal Apeejay College of Fine Arts. Addressing the august gathering she said, “It is a privilege to be the Principal of this esteemed institution. She admired the three powerful women of the Apeejay family – Dr. Sushma Paul Berlia who has made numberous efforts to empower women, Dr. Neha Berlia who is the torch bearer of the enriched legacy and Dr. Sucharita who has made relentless efforts for the upliftment of ACFA.” She added it is an honour to be sorrounded by so many empowered and strong women.

Witnessing the brilliant performance of Mrs. Vidha Lal, Dr. Dhingra said, “You are an inspiration for our students and the epitome of earning success with sheer hard work and dedication.” She added it is the farsightedness of Dr. Sushma Paul Berlia and Dr. Neha Berlia who always inspire us to invite internationally renowned artists to our college so that our students can take inspiration and learn from the best which in turn motivates them to attain their own life goals successfully in their respective fields.

Dr. Sucharita and Dr. Neerja Dhingra honored Mrs. Vidha Lal and her team and gave them mementos as token of love. Dr. Dhingra appreciated the efforts of Dr. Amita Mishra and Dr. Manisha Sharma (Programme in-charges) for its immense success.
