Jalandhar January 13 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar celebrated Lohri in the college by lighting bonfire and through philanthropic activities. On the 4th day of the NSS camp titled SANSPANDAN, the NSS volunteers distributed sweets in an orphanage. Under the awareness drive organized as a part of activities of the ongoing camp, lectures were organized. In the first technical session Ms Rajni Gupta, Head of Dept of Design spoke on ‘Sustainable Fashion’. She enlightened students that Fashion industry is the second most pollution-causing industry in the world. 20, 000 litres of water is used up to make a single T-shirt.

So, students should give a lot of thought to genuine requirement of clothes before buying them. She also stressed on the need to check if the dress material can be recycled. In the second technical session, a lecture was delivered by Ms Ramanpreet Kaur, founder of Green Sparrows Project, Jalandhar and President of S. Ajit Singh Foundation Society (R) Jalandhar. She has experience of more than 20 years in the fields of Media, Education, Social awareness, Waste management, etc.

Ms Ramanpreet spoke about ‘Alcoholism and Drug Menace in Punjab’and steps that could be taken to curb this malady. Dr Neerja Dhingra, Principal of the college applauded the efforts of student volunteers of NSS under the mentorship of Dean, NSS Dr Simkee Dev. She said that altruism is very essential component of a holistic personality development.
