
Jalandhar August 25 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- NSS wing of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar joined hands with ‘Doctors for clean air and climate action’ and ‘Lung care foundation‘ to aware students and people about the harms done by burning crop residue. To achieve this aim Guest lectures too were organised to caution the students of harms of air pollution.
Expressing her views on this occasion, Dr. Neerja Dhingra said that today environmental imbalance and global warming have become a burning issues at international level and a challenging to survive in such environment. In such a situation, it is our responsibility to make them aware of its dire consequences and how to prevent themselves from this.
Dr. Carmin Uppal addressed the students
Dr. Carmin Uppal addressed the students and told them that due to the air pollution, human lungs are getting damaged and this is the case especially in children and senior citizens. Dr. PS Bakhshi said that with the burning the crop residue, the people around are affected and it also reduces the fertility of the and destroys the countless organisms living in the soil, which further affects the ecosystem. He also shared with them that he had inspired the farmers in the village Bajra not to burn stubble and they began to grow crops without burning stubble and have set an example for the rest of the farmers too.
Mr. Rajiv Khurana said that air and water are free precious gifts given by nature and it is sad to see bottled water and oxygen cylinders today which is ultimately a means of earning money for multinational companies. He also added that the camphor we burn during worship also pollutes the air.He explained to the students the acronym of ACFA and said that A=awareness, C=Challenges,F=Future vision,A=Action.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, a member of Doctors for Clean Air and Climate Action, was awarded life membership and also honoured with a memento. Dr. Neerja Dhingra appreciated the efforts of Dr. Simkee Dev, Dean NSS for making this program a huge success and inspiring the students to actively participate in the social activities.
