Jalandhar June 5 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- World Environment Day was observed at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. The main focus of World Environment Day is on plastic pollution as it has reached forests and oceans and is causing too much harm to every species.
On this occasion the students and teachers of the college took a pledge for the conservation and protection of the environment. The teachers motivated the students to adopt a lifestyle which is environmental friendly. Also, the students were made aware about the ill effects of plastic on the environment. In view of this issue, a video related to the negative effects of plastic on marine life was shown to the students. Today plastic has become the part of our everyday life just because it is cheap. This is the reason why it is in demand and its use has increased a lot in the last few years.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, expressing her views said that today India’s population is the first in the world, due to which plastic is also used extensively in India, which is non-biodegradable. Once it comes into existence, it remains on the earth for millions and millions of years, so its use is a matter of serious concern today. As a citizen of India it is our duty to use bio plastic as an alternative to plastic. This is the need of the hour to tackle this serious issue. Along with the progress of the country, it is the duty of every citizen to conserve the environment as well.
