Jalandhar November 9 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organised a Faculty Development Programme on the topic – Research Culture: Challenges & Opportunities. The Resource Person of the day was Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Odisha, Koraput. He is a well-known and eminent researcher whose books have been published by Oxford University Press, Sage Publication, Orient Longman and so far twenty nine of his books have been published in English and Oriya. He has also been honored with various international and national awards.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra warmly welcomed him and said,” It is a matter of good fortune for our faculty that they have got the opportunity to listen to such humble personality, the wealth of knowledge, who has made its distinction at the international and national level in the field of education and research.”

Prof. Mohanty addressing the gathering and expressing his views on the topic said,” A good teacher should also be a good researcher first and the mind of the researcher should be like a child, which is full of curiosity and always eager to learn something new. The teacher should also be a constant reader and should keep himself updated with the latest trends and recent happenings and should be able to understand the difference between knowledge and intelligence.”

He added students too should be made aware of the significance of Research and it is the duty of teachers to always encourage creativity, spontaneity and curiosity of the students so that are inbuilt with the desire to learn new. Also, it is necessary to make the students aware of the Guru-Shishya tradition and tell them that we have to reconcile different ideologies and move forward on the path of life Talking about the city Jalandhar, Prof. Mohanty said that most of the business families live here and those businessmen and academicians should come on one platform and formulate new policies so that students can get proper employment opportunities.

Prof Mohanty expressed his pleasure on being coming to Punjab and said,” I am overwhelmed to see the patriotism, reverence, belongingness and hospitality of Punjab is and I would like to keep visiting Punjab continuously in future also.”

Dr. Sunit Kaur Head, Department of English while expressing her gratitude to Prof. Mohanty said,” Your spontaneous knowledge was like a flowing stream in which we all got immersed.”

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra highly appreciated the efforts of Ms. Monica Sekhon, Head, Department of Psychology and Ms. Rajni Kumar, Department of Interiors for successfully organizing the Faculty Development Program.
