
Jalandhar April 22 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organized its much awaited and spectacular Fashion show – LAVANYA: Designers’ Extravaganza; a platform provided to the students of Design to showcase their skills and give their creative, unique, and out of box ideas a concrete shape. This mega event is a gala affair of creative people, fashionistas, and the textile industries. on the grand evening, the creativity of the designers, models, anchors, fashion makeover artists enthralled the audience and left them mesmerized. The alluring models walked the ramp with utter grace, elegance and sophistication in the most creative designers’ creations and won the audience’ hearts and made the evening memorable for the days to come.
The Chief guest of the day was Dr. Shweta Shenoy Sandhu (Head, Department of Sports Medicine, and Physiotherapy, GNDU). On this occasion, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra read the message of Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia, President, Apeejay Education which said that Apeejay was manifested to preserve and promote art and Lavanya is one of the platforms which the ACFA provides for its upcoming designers to carve a niche for themselves in the Design industry.
The evening was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Sucharita Sharma (Pro Vice Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University), Dr. Renu Batra and Dr. Mithilesh Singh, high officials from the Apeejay Education. She also welcomed the judges of the Fashion Show – Mr. Jagdeep ‘Shaukeen’, (Design Head, Reliance Retail, Bangalore), Ms. Smita Sharma (Contact and Design Head, Lifestyle International Pvt.) and Ayushi Jain, alumna of ACFA who has recently won the title of Mrs. India: One in million
The celebrity guest and the sensation of the evening was Fukrey fame actor and alumna of ACFA, Mr. Varun Sharma who has shown his extraordinary skills in the movies like – Fukrey, Circus and Chichorey and Mr. Kunwar Raj, Director, Bollywood films and also alumna of ACFA. Varun Sharma interacted with the august gathering and talked about his journey from Jalandhar to Mumbai. All the three alumni – Varun Sharma, Kunwar Raj and Ayushi Jain gave credit to ACFA for giving wings to them, for all the opportunities provided by the college gave them the confidence and potential to explore their talent and live their dreams. Mrs. Ayushi Jain in particular said, ” ACFA once gave her a stage to walk on ‘Lavanya’ and that helped her a lot to own a crown and covetous title of Mrs. India.”
The Fashion show had in total 9 rounds namely Maazi Chaap, which showcased the various colours of Indian culture and purity of Vedic hymns; April Showers which had the collection inspired from the delicacy of tulip flowers and colours of nature; Wonder Bunnies presented the collection for the little munchkins which adds a spark of confidence in them; Zonaira , a collection inspired from the traditional Indian handloom textiles; Monarch Butterflies that showcased the exotic outfits inspired from the ancient temples of South India; Nightflix, for which the inspiration was drawn from the casual and comfortable wears which people had adopted during COVID times; Manhattan Mystics, a collection that spelled out the magic of black and white and monochromes; Scarlet Eve, a collection that expressed the spirit of love and affection through beautiful shades of red and Malang, a collection for the bold and confident inspired from the hallucinations.
In Lavanya 2023, April Showers won the title of Best Designers designed by Khsuhi, Akshita Jain and Manpreet Kaur, Maazi Chaap won the title of Best Innovative Round designed by Jaimine Mani, Ritika Khanna and Aastha Aneja. Mohit was the best male model and Aarushi was the best female model. The runners’ up (best designers) were Monarch Butterflies designed by Avneet Kaur, Prabhnoor and Rishiba Jain and the runners’ up (best innovative round) were Malang designed by Kavya Singla, Ritiksha and Arushi Saxena.
The prizes for the Best Designers were sponsored by Mrs. Sugandha and Dr. Peeyush Sharma from Ganga Orthocare, Jalandhar whereas the prizes of Innovative Round were sponsored by Mrs Aaina and Mr. Rishul Arora from Aanchal Fabrics, Amritsar. Along with them the prizes for best Models – male and female were sponsored by Mrs. Nimisha and Mr. Ankit Kapoor from Print Rays, Jalandhar and the prizes for the Runners’ up (Best Designers) and Runners’ up (Best Innovative Round) were sponsored by Mr. Rajiv Jaggi from RAAS, Jalandhar. The prizes for the kids models were sponsored by Ms. Leena, Mr. Sahil Dhir, Mr. Ashish Bajaj, from Bizzdev. The makeup of all the models was sponsored by Anthia Makeovers, Jalandhar and their hairstyles were sponsored by Tushar Hair and Beauty Hub, Jalandhar.
On this occasion, the Chief Guest Dr. Shweta Shenoy Sandhu, dignitaries, comperes- Jahnvi Aggarwal and Prarthna Sharma were felicitated with mementos. Dr. Sunit Kaur, Head, Department of English thanked Dr. Shweta Shenoy Sandhu for sparing her precious time, honourable guests, alumni of the college, all the persons from the fashion and textile industries, Mr. Pranav Hamel, the choreographer and the wonderful audience for making the evening a success.
