
Jalandhar June 12 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- DAV University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with S. Ajit Singh Foundation for promoting sustainable environment preservation practices in rural areas. The MoU was signed by Dr. Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, DAV University and Ms Ramanpreet Kaur, President, Ajit Singh Foundation and founder of the Green Sparrow Project.
This partnership is expected to serve as a model for other institutions and organizations to emulate, illustrating the power of collaboration in driving positive social change. The initiative also aims to address crucial societal issues with a specific focus on women’s empowerment and waste management in 10 villages adopted by the University.
Dr Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, DAV University said that S. Ajit Singh Foundation provided training on stitching bags using waste cloth material to the women. The Community Engagement Cell of the University would take care of the project to ensure that waste cloth is collected and finally transformed into beautiful bags. These bags would be sold at a nominal price to support the self-help groups. He said that the Chancellor of the University Dr. Poonam Suri has also appreciated this initiative.
The project will also raise awareness about environmental protection among the users of the bags, Dr Manoj said.
Gurbaksh Kaur, incharge of the self-help group at Karari village said that they now looked forward to contributing to the social cause in addition to earning their livelihood. Big initiatives start with small steps and they made the beginning, she added.
