Jalandhar January 6 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Economics Association organized a Group Discussion on the topic “Is India Ready for a Cashless Economy?” Students of Economics from various streams participated in the discussion with great zeal and fervour. It started with Ritika of B.Sc. (Economics) Semester V giving introduction of the topic and explaining the meaning of ‘cashless economy’. Then Payal of B.A. Semester V cited the pertinent benefits of cashless transactions.
Mansi of B.A. Semester V along with Pooja of B.A. Semester III gave supporting arguments. Students were of the view that people, especially youth, have already adopted cashless system and are finding it much convenient to use. Manpreet and Firdoush of B.A/B.Ed. Semester V and Mansi of B.Sc. Economics, however, opined against the readiness of the country to become a cashless economy. They were of the view that until entire population is educated and required infrastructure is generated, the country can not hope to become a cashless economy.
After a heated discussion among the partakers, it was concluded that benefits of cashless transactions outnumber their disadvantages and therefore desirable environment for the adoption of digital modes of transactions should be created. Members of the managing committee and Principal Dr.(Mrs) Pooja Prashar lauded the efforts of the department and held that peoples’ mindset should be changed by continuous spread of awareness regarding digital methods to rush the nation on to the path of cashless economy.
