
Jalandhar May 5 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Gurasis Singh, a student of Department of Theater of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, won the Best Actor Award for his performance in the short film ‘Rabbi’ directed by himeslf in the prestigious 13th Dada saheb Phalke Film Festival 2023 held on 30th April 2023 in Noida, Delhi.
Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra, expressing her views on this occasion said that here at Apeejay College, students are not just provided with quality education but it also ensures that their hidden talents are polished and thus can touch the heights. She added Gurasis has been participating in the Youth Festivals for past five years at Zonal and Inter Zonal level and certainly this exposure provided by the college took him to such platform where he got honoured with such prestigious award.
Dr. Neerja Dhingra congratulated Gurasis Singh for his wonderful achievement and said that he should continue his good work and attain more heights in his life and make his college proud.
About his short film Rabbi, Gurasis said that the film is about the sufferings of women living in the village who cannot live their dreams and are forced to live a suffocated life. The lead actress of the short film was Jasmine Sian, a student of MA English Semester 4th and director, writer and actor of this short film was Guruasis himself. He also shared that there were 800 short film entries from all over the world. Out of which 300 films were nominated and only 2 people were honoured with the Best Actor award and ‘Rabbi’ was the only one from Punjab.
