
Jalandhar March 7 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Environment Club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar under DBT Star Scheme and under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs) Ajay Sareen celebrated Organic Holi to spread awareness regarding use of eco-friendly, herbal and skin-safe colours. On this occasion, the competitive events such as Eco-friendly Rangoli and Fireless cooking competition were organized.
The students from all streams enthusiastically participated in the events and prepared beautiful Rangolis using eco-friendly materials such as pulses, rice, flour, leaves, flowers etc. Students also prepared colourful and immunity boosting dishes using natural herbs, citrus fruits, broccoli, bell peppers, ginger, garlic, turmeric etc demonstrating the correct match of various ingredients to enhance maximum absorption of nutrients from the food.
The students also prepared organic colours from sandalwood, beetroot, turmeric, spinach, hibiscus, marigold, rice, flour and gram flour. Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen emphasized the use of organic and environmentally friendly colours instead of synthetic colours to avoid the exposure to harmful chemicals. She also congratulated HMV Environment Club for the initiative and appreciated the flawless efforts of students.

Head of Zoology Department and Dean Academics, Dr. Seema Marwaha motivated the students to take home message of using only eco-friendly and herbal colours and spread awareness among their close ones to avoid using harmful colours and educate them regarding the health and environmental risks associated with synthetic chemical-based colours.
Environment Club Incharge, Dr. Sakshi Verma explained that the chemical-based Holi colours are mostly industrial dyes or oxidized metals mixed with oil and include the harmful elements. The events were judged by Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dr. Shaveta Chauhan, Mrs. Deepshikha and Dr. Nitika Kapoor. The teams securing 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in both the competitions were awarded and e-certificates were provided to all the participants.
Student office bearers of the environment club Yashika Arora, Twinkle Aggarwal and Akanksha prepared beautiful cards and badges on this occasion. Mr. Ravi Kumar, Assistant Professor was the convener of the event. Mrs. Saloni, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dr. Jatinder, Mr. Sumit, Mr. Sushil, Mrs. Ramandeep, Ms. Harpreet, Dr. Simmi, Dr. Shuchi, graced the occasion with their presence. Lab technician Mr. Sachin, assisted in making all arrangements for the event.
