Jalandhar February 10 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar’s Post Graduate Department of Psychology organized an International Webinar on Domestic Violence Against Women: Break The Silence. The eminent resource person for the Webinar was Dr. Megha Mishra, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Southend University, London, U.K..
Addressing the students Dr. Megha emphasized on the need for creating awareness amongst women about violence that they suffer at home and are unable to voice out their pain because of various factors like:- fear of judgment, financial dependency, children’s responsibility, pregnancy, a hope, that might be their patience could change the situation or sometimes denial. She also highlighted different forms of abuse as sometimes the victims are in denial.
She conducted a poll with students to understand their opinion on this extremely sensitive matter in which the students participated actively. She explained the role of a psychologist and other mental health care providers in helping the victims of Abuse and also gave an insight into the statistics of domestic violence in UK and India. At the end of the webinar she also addressed the various questions of the students with simple yet meaningful answers. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi extended here gartitude towards Dr. Megha Mishra and also lauded the efforts of the Psychology department.
