PCM SD College for Women celebrates ‘Basant Panchami’

Basant Panchami

Jalandhar February 14 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- Department of Home Science and Youth Club of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar celebrated ‘Basant Panchami‘ in all its form and glory.

The day is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Magha. Basant Panchami is commonly known as ‘Saraswati Pujan’.

Since Goddess Saraswati is associated with music, arts and knowledge, this day is also marked by the significant ritual of Vidhya Arambha. This ritual is about embarking young children towards education and formal learning. Hence, the respected members of the Managing Committee, Madam Principal and Members of the Staff wished good luck to the students for their ongoing exams.

The college premises was bedecked with vibrant yellow coloured flowers, kites and resplendent decorations.

It is an established fact that this premier institution of ours always cherishes such festivals and rituals which make us cling to our roots and put us in cultural retrospection, specifically in terms of the utmost relevance it gives to the emblematic Goddess.

Principal Dr.(Mrs) Pooja Prashar initiated the festivities with the invocation of Goddess Saraswati. Holy hymns were chanted in praise of the Goddess. Flowers were offered to the Goddess of Knowledge.

Prasad was distributed among all. Students flew kites to enliven the age old yearly tradition of the festival as a mark of the advent of Spring season.

President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Prof.(Dr.) Pooja Prashar applauded the efforts put in by the Department of Home Science and that of Youth Club.
