Jalandhar October 11 (Jaswinder Singh Azad)- A one-day seminar was organized by the Department of Punjabi of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar on the topic ‘Najam De Surmai Rang‘ where the renowned and celebrated author and Padam Shri recipient Dr. Surjit Patar was the chief speaker of the day. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra warmly welcomed Dr. Patar and expressed her ecstasy at his arrival and added it is an honour for the college and the students that we can listen you and your celebrated and divine poetry live.
She added, ” Your arrival is like a milestone in the history of our college and will be cherished forever and we are happy and grateful that such magnetic and positivity personality has come at our college. We will be more than happy to receive such a person who pulsates with magnetic and positive energy and we will be more than happy to have you again to visit our college and inspire our students in the future too.”
Padmashree Dr Surjit Patar, while narrating his poetic journey, said that in childhood, when his father went abroad to fulfill the responsibilities of the house ,that was the first instance when he had given the shape to sadness in his heart and his mother’s eyes in the form of poem. Since then there was no turning back and he started writing poetry and along with that other folk tales,nature became inspiration for his poetry. He also shared with his audience that every poem of his has some deep experience attached to it.
On coming to college, he expressed his happiness upon meeting the young talent and see the artefacts made by the students. He also sang some of his songs to the students and answered their questions.
Surjit Patar is a poet of the power of words
On this occasion, Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar, former Head of Department of Punjabi, Lyallpur Khalsa College, while expressing his views said that Dr. Surjit Patar is a poet who is not only celebrated in Punjab, India but the whole world and Dr. Ominder Singh Johal, Head of Department of Punjabi, Doaba College, while expressing his views said that Surjit Patar is a poet of the power of words and today he is present in front of us as our ideal.
Mr. Sandeep Singh, Head of Department of Punjabi of ACFA presented a documentary related to the life of Dr. Surjit Patar and also recited his self-composed poem. On this occasion, students who got the best positions in various competitions as – Portrait making, Calligraphy and poetry composition organised by Department of Punjabi were awarded by Dr. Surjit Patar and Dr. Neerja Dhingra.
Shivam, a student of Department of Music under the direction of Dr Amita Mishra and Dr. Vivek Verma, mesmerized everyone by singing a folk song. Ms. Lovepreet Kaur, Assistant Professor in Department played an important role in making the programme successful with her smooth compeering. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra highly appreciated the efforts of the faculty of Department of Punjabi for the immense success of the seminar.
